I now have the ultimate setup, I can use Reason 5 for quick sketches and for loading a light ReWire capable rack. It can even be launched simultaneously to another version of Reason and they both work fully and can be switched between. It has its own Favourites and Locations and essentially acts completely standalone. This allows for Reason 5 to start instantly (without requiring any reinstall of dependencies into system folders, or reconfiguration of its preferences) and it does not touch or interact with Reason 6/7/8/9 at all. It also now has its own Preferences file in '~/Library/Preferences' that is completely independent of Reason 6/7/8/9. With these two changes, Reason 5 now uses own its Application Support folder called 'Propellerhead 5oftware' in both '~/Library/Application Support' and '/Library/Application Support', to put its Favourites files and its ReWire Bundle and REX Library respectively. ![]() In this same file I also hex edited a string 'Reason Preferences' into 'Reason Preference5'. I changed this string to 'Propellerhead 5oftware' in my Reason 5 binary at /Applications/Reason/Reason 5.app/Contents/MacOS/Reason To remedy this I used a hex editor to change a string 'Propellerhead Software' that exists within the Reason binary in the Reason 5 application bundle. However it was a pain switching between versions due to prompts and loss of preferences. Reason 5 uses the Reason 7 Factory Sound Bank ReFill, but it still works fine. On Mac I have Reason 5 installed at /Applications/Reason/Reason 5.appĪnd Reason 7 installed at /Applications/Reason/Reason 7.app ![]() This trick should work for Reason 5 + Reason 6/7/8/9 too and probably on Windows by hex editing Reason.exe files. On Mac I've found an easy way to run Reason 5 and Reason 7 together. Greetings from Don Johe Studio in Denmark. Wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy new year! HEX FIEND MAC GLITCH NOT WORKING HOW TOThere MUST be a way I can avoid this problem, or?ĭoes anyone of you had similar problems and have found a way how to solve it? Or at least have good suggestions to a solution? So the thing is that Reason 9 somehow "destroy" the cache files that Reason 5 uses to launch, and also Rewire. HEX FIEND MAC GLITCH NOT WORKING PROThen I can launch Reason 5 again and Rewire shows up in both Cubase and Pro Tools. The only way I can make Reason 5 work again, is to delete the cache files within the hidden folder in system library, and also reinstall Rewire. But then suddenly, after I have been using Reason 9, Reason 5 will no longer open and comes up with a "bad format" error, and at the same time Rewire is no longer accessible from either Cubase or Pro Tools. HEX FIEND MAC GLITCH NOT WORKING INSTALLBut when I install Reason 9 and launch, which goes well - I can work in Reason 9 without any problems at all. Because of that I still need my Reason 5 running as it works perfectly together with Pro Tools (and Cubase 5 which I also often use). Pro Tools 10.3.10 is 32bit so therefore I can't use Reason 9 (64bit) which I bought recently, together with Pro Tools through Rewire. ![]() I have a Mac Pro running Lion (10.7) with Pro Tools 10.3.10. ![]()
